Date: Saturday February 28, 2009
Times: Mandatory Director's Meeting and Chapter Annual Meeting at 1:30 pm.
Junior Choir (grades 3-6) Registration at 8:15 am. Line-up starts at 8:30 am.
Half Day Primary Choir (grades K-2) Registration at 12:15 pm.
Rehearsals start at 12:30 pm.
Optional Full Day Primary Choir (grades K-2) Activity Room available starting at
8:30 am. Rehearsals start at 12:30 pm.
Concert at 3:00 pm.

Clinician: Marjorie Smith is currently the music teacher at Schwarzkopf Elementary School in Tampa, Florida located in Hillsborough County.  Mrs. Smith has taught music at the college level for 3 years and the elementary and for 35 years. She is also the conductor of the Gulf Coast Children’s Choir and has been for the past 14 years. She received the honor of Hillsborough County Teacher Of the Year in 1989; Florida Elementary Music Educator of the Year in 2001; and, National Board Certification in 2002. She is also listed in the Silver Anniversary edition of Marquis Who’s Who in American Education, Who’s Who In The World and Who’s Who of American Woman. In addition, her school music program at Schwarzkopf Elementary has been identified as a Music Demonstration School by the state of Florida (2001 - 2008).

She received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Music Education from the University of South Florida.  She is also certified in Levels I and II Orff-Schulwerk and Level I World Music Drumming.  Mrs. Smith has conducted elementary All-County choruses, festivals and teacher workshops throughout the state of Florida.

In 1990 she co-authored Listen and Learn, a music series with active listening lessons for elementary and middle school music classrooms.  Mrs. Smith is also a contributing author to the 1995 edition of the Silver Burdett music textbook series entitled, The Music Connection. She is an active member of the Music Educators National Conference, Florida Music Educators Association, Florida Elementary Music Educators Association and the American Choral Directors Association.

In addition, she leads the Praise and Worship and participates in the puppet ministry for the four-year-olds and is an active member of the Adult Worship Choir at Idlewild Baptist Church.

Sharon Hall Memorial Scholarship Fund: Sharon Hall was a Children's Choir Director at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, a charter member of the Central Florida Chapter of Choristers Guild. After her death in 1996, the Central Florida Chapter of Choristers Guild established the Sharon Hall Scholarship Fund to honor Mrs. Hall's commitment to, enthusiam for and love of children and music. The scholarship fund will cover festival registration fees for choristers and/or directors in financial need. Festival Information Updates:

If you plan to attend the festival please be sure Bonnie Litteral has your current e-mail address. Click on Bblitteral@AOL.com. to send this information. Also include a valid e-mail address on the Registration Form if you would like confirmation of your registration. You will receive schedules, name tags, and class assignments when you arrive on February 28, 2009.

Permission Form:

A permission form must be filled out for each chorister and turned into the festival registrar before name tags and schedules will be given out on the morning of the festival. This is to ensure safety of the children in case there is an emergency and the director cannot be immediately located. A form can be found by clicking the Permission Form Button on the bottom of this page. We also ask that each church have an emergency person at home(someone that can be called and who will contact the rest of the parents in case of an emergency).

Travel Directions to First Presbyterian Church of Lake Wales

From Orlando and North

Take Interstate 4 West to Exit 55 (Highway 27- Haines City Exit)
Take Highway 27 South for 26.2 miles (30 minutes) to Lake Wales
Shortly after the Florida's Natural citrus plant, at the intersection of Highway 27 and West Central Avenue - turn left onto West Central Avenue
Go through four traffic lights, over the train tracks, and turn left onto North Third Street
First Presbyterian Church is on the right and parking is on the left side of the street.

From Tampa and Southwest coast areas

Take Highway 60 East (approximately 50 miles) until you reach the overpass for Highway 27 (this is past the IHOP and KFC)
Take the Highway 27 exit North
As soon as you get off the exit ramp, stay in the far right hand lane and turn right onto West Central Avenue, which is the first traffic light (a Cheveron gas station is on the corner)
Go through four traffic lights, over the train tracks, and turn left onto North Third Street
First Presbyterian Church is on the right and parking is on the left side of the street.

From the East and Southeast

Take Highway 60 West from either Interstate 95 or the Florida Turnpike
Less than a mile after passing the Lake Wales Medical Center, angle right and down the ramp to get onto Highway 17
Once on Highway 17 (S. Scenic Highway) it is about 3 blocks to East Central Avenue
Turn right on East Central Avenue, go one block and make a left on North Third Street
First Presbyterian Church is on the right and parking is on the left side of the street.

Housing:

A block of rooms is reserved for Friday night, February 27, at the Hampton Inn and Suites, 22900 Highway 27, Lake Wales, Florida 33898. (863-734-3000). Ask for the Choristers Guild rate. Rooms have two queen size beds or one king size bed. Alternatively the Hampton Inn has suites with two queen size beds (or one king) and a pull out sofa bed that sleeps two people. The tax should be able to be avoided if you bring a copy of the church's tax exempt letter. Breakfast is included in the room rate. The Hampton Inn and Suites is about 4.2 miles from the First Presbyterian Church with a travel time of about 10 minutes. Some less expensive hotels can be found within 15 miles of Lake Wales (Winter Haven, Haines City, Dundee).

Travel directions from the Hampton Inn and Suites to the First Presbyterian Church:

Head south on US 27 approximately 3.3 miles
Turn left on West Central Avenue
Go through four traffic lights, over the train tracks
Turn left onto North Third Street. The church is on the right and parking is on the left side of the street.

Dress for the day and the concert:

—Shorts or slacks
—Tee shirt or polo shirt (a shirt representing your choir or church is great)
—Tennis shoes with socks (please emphasize "safe" shoes for climbing on choral risers)

Primary Schedule:

Please note that the schedule for primary choir singers starts at 12:15 pm. A room with supplies for various activites for primary choristers will be available in the morning; however, each choir must have adults supervising their primaries until the start of the first rehearsal at 12:30. If you want primary choristers to be included in the lunch count please register them as "Full Day Primaries" on the Registration Form Enrollment Summary.
